U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) was formed in 1961 as an agency to administer economic assistance programs with emphasis on long-range economic and social development assistance targeting the developing countries.
The U.S. government re-opened the USAID mission in Islamabad in 2002 and since then has provided assistance to address needs in economic growth, education, health, good governance, earthquake reconstruction assistance, as well as humanitarian assistance. USAID/Pakistan: Jobs project launched in May 2009 signifies USAID’s continued commitment to tangibly improve the well-being of Pakistanis.

CARE is a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty, operating in more than 65 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Eastern Europe, reaching more than 50 million people in poor communities. With the mission to serve individuals and families in the poorest communities in the world, CARE promotes innovative solutions and advocates for global responsibility by drawing strength from its global diversity, resources and experience.
CARE places emphasis on providing support to women with the belief that women have the power to help whole families and entire communities escape poverty if they are equipped with the proper resources. Their philosophy has been heavily incorporated into the overall design of the USAID/Pakistan: Jobs Project and CARE will be partnering with Abt Associates to implement these initiatives.
